Usk: Farm Buildings, Barn Roofs and a Conservation Town

Rural Monmouthshire gives us more roof area per client than anywhere else we work.

Whole Farmsteads in a Single Flight

A working farm around Usk, Llandenny or Raglan might carry a house, three barns, a machinery shed and a stable block. Inspecting that with ladders is a full day at height; flying it is one sortie. Each roof is documented separately, so spending goes on the building that is actually failing rather than the one nearest the yard.

Fibre Cement and Corrugated Sheet

Agricultural roofs are largely profiled fibre cement and steel sheet, much of it decades old. It goes brittle, the fixings corrode, and the sheet will not carry a person's weight — which is exactly why nobody should be walking it to check. Aerial inspection records sheet condition, fixings, ridge caps and light panels with nobody at height.

Conservation Town, Flood-Prone Fabric

Usk town is a conservation area of Georgian and Victorian stock close to a river that floods. Roof and rainwater goods matter more on a building already dealing with periodic water at ground level, and the parapet gutters and concealed valleys behind those frontages are invisible from Bridge Street.

No Contracting Arm, No Conflict

We do not re-sheet barns, re-slate roofs or clear gutters. A fixed survey fee buys the flight and the full data set, and what we report has no bearing on what we are paid. For a farm business planning capital spend across several buildings, that neutrality is the entire point.

Usk Drone Surveys: NP15 & Rural Questions

What Usk, Raglan, Llandenny and Goytre landowners ask us.

How many buildings can you survey in one visit?

On a typical Usk or Raglan farm we would expect to cover a house and five or six outbuildings comfortably within one visit, often more. It is quoted per site rather than per ladder, which is why rural work represents unusually good value.

Our barn roof is old cement sheet. Can you inspect it safely?

This is the clearest case for flying. Older fibre cement sheeting is fragile and may contain asbestos, so nobody should be on it. We survey it entirely from the air — cracking, sheet slippage, corroded fixings, failed light panels — without disturbing the material at all.

Do you cover Raglan, Llandenny, Goytre and Llantrisant?

Yes, along with Usk town, Gwehelog and the Llangybi side. Travel from our Pontypool base is short and is calculated for your exact postcode in the quote form on this page.

Will the drone unsettle livestock?

We plan the flight to avoid it: sensible stand-off from stock, no low passes over paddocks or grazing, and timing chosen around milking or handling where that matters. If animals appear unsettled we stop and reposition.

Can you produce field mapping as well as roof inspections?

Yes. Alongside building condition we fly measured mapping for drainage planning, field boundaries, volumes and land records. That side of the work is described on our topographical mapping page.
